Frequently asked questions

How do I set a timer for a specific number of minutes?

Enter hours, minutes and seconds, then press Start. For a 5 minute timer, enter 5 in Minutes or choose the 5 min preset. Pause and resume with the same button, or use +1 min to extend the duration.

How do I get an alarm sound when the timer ends?

Choose Soft bell, Chime, Classic timer or Alarm under End sound and enable Sound. Audio requires browser interaction and an audible device volume. Select None for a silent countdown. Background restrictions can delay or prevent an alert.

Does closing the tab stop my timer?

Closing the tab stops that page from running, so it cannot deliver an end sound from the closed page. The browser saves session state and calculates elapsed time from timestamps when you reopen it. Recovery depends on local storage remaining available. Keep the page open if you need an alert.

Does the timer keep working if the tab is hidden?

The display uses saved timestamps to calculate elapsed and remaining time. A hidden tab may update less often, and a suspended device can delay sounds or notifications. Returning to the page recalculates the display, but the tool cannot guarantee an alert while it is hidden.

Can I keep the timer on screen while I use other tools?

Press Pin to show a floating timer card on other MORELESS pages. The card has Start or Pause and Reset controls and can be dragged to another position. It stays within the MORELESS website, rather than floating above other apps.

Can I use it as a Pomodoro timer?

Open Pomodoro from the mode bar for focus sessions and breaks. It defaults to 25 minutes of focus, 5 minute short breaks and a 15 minute long break after four rounds. You can change the lengths and choose whether the next phase starts automatically.

Can I count down to a specific date?

Open Countdown from the mode bar, choose a future date and time, then add a title and theme. Share copies an event card link containing those details. The date is entered in your device’s local time.

What is meeting cost mode?

Meeting cost mode shows a live estimate from elapsed time, participant count and the hourly rate in your chosen currency.

Do sound and notifications require permission?

Audio usually requires an interaction with the page. Browser notifications require permission and browser support. Both are optional, and neither can be guaranteed when the page or device is suspended.

Is my timer data uploaded?

Timer calculations and saved session state use your browser. No account is needed. If you use Countdown sharing, its title, target time and display choices are included in the URL, so anyone with that link can read them.

Technical details

Timestamp calculations

Elapsed and remaining time are calculated from saved timestamps and the device clock, rather than counting display updates. Changing the system clock can affect the result. Hidden tabs and suspended devices can delay phase changes and alerts.

Local session storage

Mode settings and recoverable session state are saved in IndexedDB in this browser. Clearing site data or using temporary browser storage can remove them. Countdown links also contain the event details needed to reopen the shared card.

Browser cues

Sound uses the browser’s audio API. Notifications require permission, and vibration depends on device support. There is no screen wake lock, so keep the device awake and the page open when you need timely cues.

Shared timing modes

Timer, Stopwatch, Countdown, Pomodoro, Interval and Meeting cost each have a dedicated page. They share a timer engine and local session storage, so switching between these pages can restore the saved state for each mode.
