Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique organizes work into timed focus sessions with breaks, alongside planning and reviewing your work. Its familiar starting point is 25 minutes of focus followed by a short break. MORELESS defaults to 25 minute focus sessions, 5 minute short breaks and a 15 minute long break after four rounds.

Can I change the focus and break lengths?

Set focus sessions from 1 to 180 minutes, short breaks from 1 to 60 minutes and the long break from 1 to 90 minutes. You can also choose 1 to 12 focus rounds before the long break.

How many rounds come before a long break?

The default is four focus rounds, with short breaks between them and a long break after the last round. Change Rounds to choose a set of 1 to 12. The cycle finishes after its long break rather than repeating indefinitely.

Does the next session start automatically?

Turn on Auto-start next phase to continue from focus into a break and on to the next focus round. Leave it off to advance to the next phase without starting its clock. Press Start when you are ready. The timer stops when the final long break finishes.

Will it notify me when a session ends?

Enable Sound for phase cues, or Notify for optional browser notifications after granting permission. A hidden tab, sleeping device or closed page can delay or prevent an alert. Keep the device awake and the page open when you need a timely cue.

Can I name the task I am focusing on?

Add a task label of up to 48 characters. The cycle plan shows the focus sessions and breaks, with the current phase highlighted. Next skips the current phase when you want to move on.

Where are my Pomodoro settings saved?

The timer saves settings, your task label and recoverable session state in this browser, with no account required. Clearing site data or using temporary browser storage can remove them.

Technical details

Timestamp calculations

Elapsed and remaining time are calculated from saved timestamps and the device clock, rather than counting display updates. Changing the system clock can affect the result. Hidden tabs and suspended devices can delay phase changes and alerts.

Local session storage

Mode settings and recoverable session state are saved in IndexedDB in this browser. Clearing site data or using temporary browser storage can remove them. Countdown links also contain the event details needed to reopen the shared card.

Browser cues

Sound uses the browser’s audio API. Notifications require permission, and vibration depends on device support. There is no screen wake lock, so keep the device awake and the page open when you need timely cues.

Shared timing modes

Timer, Stopwatch, Countdown, Pomodoro, Interval and Meeting cost each have a dedicated page. They share a timer engine and local session storage, so switching between these pages can restore the saved state for each mode.
