Text editing

Line by line

Each line is replaced where it stands. The rest of the page is not touched.

Matching fonts

Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New, Cambria, Georgia and Helvetica are set in fonts with the same letter widths. A line in another font is marked Font.

Any script

Type in Czech, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Thai, Chinese, Japanese or Korean. Right-to-left lines keep their right edge.

Still text

The new line can be selected, copied and searched in every PDF reader, and the old words are gone from the file.

Undo

Every change can be undone, redone or restored from the list.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change text in a PDF?

Drop your PDF, click the line, type the new text and press Enter. Select Download PDF.

Does the paragraph flow again?

No. Each line keeps its place, so a much longer line can run past its column. Keep a changed line about as long as the old one.

Can I edit a scanned page?

Pages without visible PDF text are recognized automatically here. Click a recognized line to replace it with real text in a similar font. Recognition can make mistakes. Solid background and text colours are sampled from the page. Lines on complex backgrounds cannot be replaced reliably and are marked as unavailable. Check the preview before downloading.

Why can some lines not be edited?

Text on a hidden layer, vertical text, text partly hidden by the page and some fonts cannot be set again without changing how the page looks. Such a line says why when you point at it.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The files and what you type stay in your browser and never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no usage limits, and no watermark.

Technical details

Processing

PDFium finds the lines and removes the old one. The new line is shaped with HarfBuzz and written where the old one was, in a background worker in your browser.

Fonts

Fonts with the same letter widths are used for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. Fonts for other scripts are loaded from this site the first time a script appears.

Beta

Styles inside a line follow its longest part, and a justified line loses its justification.
