How to use it
Inspect the document-property fields and enter the changes you need.
Use Remove all when you want to clear the supported metadata fields rather than replace individual values.
Save, download and inspect the document properties in a PDF reader.
Read the existing properties
Document properties describe the file. They are separate from the words printed on its pages.
Open Metadata with your PDF already loaded.
Read the title, author, subject and keywords. A blank field does not mean the document itself is blank.
When more than one document is loaded, check for mixed values before making a shared change.
Change the title and author
Use meaningful properties so you can identify the document later.
Enter the document title in Title.
Enter the person or organization you want recorded in Author.
Review the other property fields before saving. This does not replace names printed inside the document.
Remove document properties
Remove all clears the offered metadata fields and dates. It does not remove private text from the page content.
Review the properties you want to remove.
Choose Remove all. Check the cleared fields.
Save a new copy and inspect its properties. Use Redact if you need to remove sensitive content from the pages themselves.
Download and check the result
The result view shows the created output. Downloading a file and checking its contents are separate steps.
Read the output name, count and size in the result view. If processing reported a problem, return to the settings and correct it before continuing.
Choose Download and keep the new file separate from your original. If several outputs are packaged together, open the archive to find them.
Open the downloaded result in a suitable viewer. Check the pages and content affected by this task. Keep your original until you are satisfied.
Output and limits
Metadata changes document properties such as title, author, subject and keywords. It does not remove visible names, signatures, annotations or other sensitive content from the pages. Use Redact for page content. The operation preserves separate source documents.
